Terms of Service
Effective April 17, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Heliostat at heliostat.dev, a planning tool for solo developers operated by REEDSTER LLC ("Heliostat", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the service you agree to these Terms.
1. Eligibility and beta status
Heliostat is currently invite-only and in beta. You may use the service only if you have received and redeemed a valid invitation. The service is provided as an evolving beta: features may change, break, or be removed without notice, and data loss, while we work to prevent it, is possible. Keep your own backups of anything important.
You must be at least 16 years old to use Heliostat.
2. Your account
You sign in to Heliostat using GitHub OAuth. You are responsible for the security of your GitHub account and any activity that occurs under your Heliostat account. Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you believe your account has been compromised.
You may stop using Heliostat at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, that abuse the service, or that pose a risk to other users or to the platform.
3. GitHub integration and the data you authorize
To use repository features you install the Heliostat GitHub App on the specific repositories you want tracked. The App's permissions are limited to repository metadata, repository webhooks, and your email address. You are responsible for ensuring you have authority to install the App on any repository you choose (e.g. for organization-owned repositories). You can uninstall the App or change the installed repository set at any time from your GitHub account or organization settings; uninstalling stops all new data from flowing but does not, by itself, delete data already ingested.
When you install the App on a repository, GitHub forwards push events to Heliostat. Those events may include personal data of collaborators (commit author name, email, GitHub username) that GitHub itself surfaces in commit metadata. You are responsible for any disclosures or notices required of you in connection with that processing.
4. Your content
You retain ownership of the pitches, scopes, notes, check-ins, and other content you create in Heliostat ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to host, display, process, and back up Your Content solely to operate the service for you and to deliver the features you have asked for (e.g. AI assistance, digest emails, repository matching).
You are responsible for Your Content. Do not upload material you do not have the right to share, and do not use Heliostat to store sensitive personal data about others (for example, government IDs, financial account numbers, or special-category personal data) — Heliostat is not designed for that.
5. The Senior and other AI features
Heliostat includes AI-powered features ("The Senior", daily digests). These features send the relevant pitch and cycle context to OpenAI to generate a response. AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for any particular use; treat it as a suggestion, never as authoritative advice. You are responsible for reviewing and deciding what to act on.
Do not paste credentials, secrets, or other sensitive information into pitch fields or into The Senior — that content will be transmitted to OpenAI.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Heliostat to violate any law or the rights of others.
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, or probe the service for vulnerabilities outside of a coordinated, good-faith disclosure to [email protected].
- Reverse engineer, scrape, or attempt to extract data from the service in bulk except as expressly permitted.
- Use Heliostat or its AI features to generate or store content that is unlawful, harassing, or designed to deceive.
- Resell or sublicense access to the service.
7. Fees
Heliostat is currently provided at no charge during the beta. We may introduce paid plans in the future. If we do, we will give you notice and an opportunity to review pricing before any charges apply to your account.
8. Service availability
We do not guarantee any particular uptime or availability for the beta. The service may be unavailable for maintenance, third-party outages (GitHub, OpenAI, Resend), or causes outside our control.
9. Termination
You may stop using Heliostat at any time, and may request account deletion under the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate your access for violation of these Terms, for non-use, or if we discontinue the service. On termination, the cascade described in the Privacy Policy will remove your data; please export anything you wish to keep beforehand.
10. Disclaimers
HELIOSTAT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE. AI-GENERATED OUTPUT IS NOT WARRANTED FOR ACCURACY OR FITNESS FOR ANY PURPOSE.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, REEDSTER LLC AND ITS AFFILIATES WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US$100) OR THE AMOUNTS YOU HAVE PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
12. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless REEDSTER LLC from any claim or demand brought by a third party arising out of Your Content, your use of the service in violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right (including the rights of repository collaborators whose data is forwarded to the service through your GitHub integration).
13. Changes to the service and to these Terms
We may modify the service or these Terms over time. Material changes to the Terms will be communicated by email or in-app notice before they take effect. Your continued use of the service after the change is effective constitutes acceptance.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the service will be brought in the state or federal courts located in King County, Washington, and you consent to that exclusive venue.
